One of the Ghats on the eastern bank of the river. These Ghats are used for bathing by the people.“City of Joy” – Calcutta is seen on the Eastern Bank of the River Ganges. Howrah town is on the West Bank. This is the branch river of the Ganges which is also known as River Hoogly.

A magnificent view of the old Howrah Bridge, symbol of the city. This links two cities- Howrah & Calcutta.

The city Calcutta, under East India Company and later under the British Raj, served as the capital of India until 1911, when the capital was shifted to New Delhi.

New Howrah Bridge which also connects both the cities and make ease of movement of vehicular traffic to & from Howrah.

Belur Mutt is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, a chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. It is located on the west bank of Hooghly River, Belur, West Bengal, India and is one of the significant institutions in Calcutta.
